About Decision Lab
Decision Lab is an award-winning technology consultancy. We use cutting-edge simulation, digital twins, data science, and mathematical modelling to solve some of the most complex operational and strategic challenges facing our clients. We pride ourselves on turning deep technical expertise into real-world, actionable client value.
The Role
We are seeking a talented and versatile Simulation & Digital Twin Consultant to join our team. In this fully remote role, you will design, develop, and refine sophisticated simulation models that mirror real-world systems, helping clients make critical, data-driven decisions.
Beyond core simulation development, you will build bespoke user interfaces, design data pipelines, and take ownership of delivering small-to-medium-sized projects. This is an exceptional opportunity to combine technical execution with project leadership and client management.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Expertise & Capability
- Simulation & Modelling: Develop, test, and refine high-fidelity simulation models to address complex, real-world operational problems.
- UI Design: Design intuitive, bespoke User Interfaces (UIs) that allow clients to seamlessly input simulation parameters.
- Data Engineering: Design and implement robust data pipelines and relational-schema data models to power simulations.
- Data Visualisation: Apply a variety of visualisation techniques to design impactful, clear, and intuitive data visuals and dashboards.
- Agile Standards: Adhere to strict coding quality standards and collaborate effectively as part of an agile software development team.
Project Management & Delivery
- Project Ownership: Manage the delivery of small to medium-sized projects, ensuring your project POD adheres to time, cost, and quality targets. Take complete ownership of project documentation.
- Agile Leadership: Manage work prioritisation, lead iteration planning sessions, and proactively communicate progress and potential risks to stakeholders.
- Business Growth: Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure models meet their needs and identify cross-sell opportunities with existing clients to pass to the Sales team.
Project Management & Delivery
- Stakeholder Communication: Articulate how technical features deliver specific business value. Present work effectively to both technical and business audiences, adapting your language accordingly.
- Problem Solving: Investigate and resolve a broad range of complex issues. Facilitate creative thinking workshops and contribute actively to the team’s innovation process.
- Teamwork: Engage with and contribute effectively to cross-functional, multi-disciplinary teams while facilitating collaborative project discussions.
- Personal Growth: Rapidly absorb new information and technologies. Drive your own development plan, maintain an understanding of emerging practices, and deliver learning activities (e.g., show & tells, demos) for internal teams and clients.
Skills & Requirements
Essential
- Education: A degree, apprenticeship, or equivalent experience in a relevant subject. Relevant subjects involve any of the following: computer science, software development, engineering, mathematics, statistics, data analysis, or model development.
- Domain Interest: A strong, demonstrable interest in simulation modelling and digital twin concepts.
- Programming Skills: Fluency in at least one programming language with demonstrable experience applying it to practical problems.
- Communication: Strong ability to communicate complex technical and simulation concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Preferred
- Simulation Tools: Experience developing simulation models using tools such as AnyLogic, AnyLogistix, FlexSim, Simio, Simul8, etc.
- Languages & Frameworks: Experience coding in Java and/or JavaScript (particularly for ReactJS).
- UI/UX: Experience or a keen interest in developing interactive user interfaces.
- Project Delivery: Experience managing projects, leading agile teams, and an interest in developing broader leadership qualities.
- Software Engineering Best Practices: Familiarity with software engineering standards such as unit testing, version control (Git), and writing modularised code.
What We Offer
- The opportunity to work on cutting-edge digital twin and simulation projects for major organisations.
- A remote working environment with a supportive, highly collaborative team culture.
- A clear pathway to develop both your technical expertise and your project leadership/management skills.
- Competitive benefits and remuneration package
